Civil War Surgical Amputation Case – Inventory Number: MED 128 / Sold  Original Three Tier Kit by George Tiemann – 63 Chatham Street, New York.   The business operated at this address only from 1858-1864 and this is the desirable address and maker on a Civil War Kit.   The mahogany box measures 17” x 7” x 4” when closed.   It is lined with a bold emerald green velvet with a combination of fitted and slotted partitions for surgical and amputation tools. The case contains numerous items including the Capital amputation saw, bullet forceps, a pair of tweezers, metacarpal saw, smaller forceps, three large amputation knives, a series of scalpels, tenaculum, trephine bit, and a trocar with sleeve.   An outstanding example for any Civil War or early Medical collection!
