Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver

 

A desirable Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver chambered in .36 caliber, retaining matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, cylinder, backstrap, and beneath the grips, all numbered 90332. The revolver has developed an attractive dark brown untouched patina across the steel surfaces, giving the piece a pleasing Civil War-era appearance.

 

The top barrel address remains visible and reads “Address Saml Colt Hartford Ct.” The left side of the frame is stamped “Colts Patent,” while the wedge pin is a replacement and marked with the serial number 0425. The steel trigger guard is constructed in two pieces with a visible seam behind the forward screw, and no serial number is present on the guard itself.

 

The walnut grips show honest wear from handling and age, with minor wood loss noted at the lower left corner. A faintly carved or scratched name remains visible on the right grip panel, adding further intrigue to the revolver.

 

Mechanically, the revolver remains in working order with a functioning action. A solid representative example of one of Colt’s most iconic percussion revolvers, widely carried and privately purchased during the antebellum and Civil War periods.
