Outstanding U.S. .69 caliber infantry cartridge box, a fully complete example retaining both original inner tins and both brass plates. The box features a regulation “US” oval cartridge box plate on the flap, paired with a brass eagle breast plate still affixed to the shoulder sling—an increasingly difficult combination to find intact.

 

The black bridle leather box shows honest field wear but remains strong and supple, with the seams intact and the flap retaining its original curvature. The sling is full length, with the eagle plate positioned exactly as worn, creating an exceptional untouched presentation. Interior includes both factory tins, uncommon survivors that confirm the box saw little postwar alteration.

 

This is the classic cartridge box carried by Federal soldiers armed with converted or leftover .69 caliber muskets early in the war. Fully complete examples with sling, both plates, and both tins are scarce and highly desirable among collectors of early-war equipment.
