Confederate Conversion of Model 1808 Musket
$1,850.00
Description
Confederate Conversion of Model 1808 Musket
Confederate conversion of an early Model 1808 U.S. musket altered to percussion ignition with a Richmond‑style hook hammer.
The steel components show a dark brown patina with minor pitting near the breech. The high‑combed Model 1808 stock displays a repaired split at the neck that was secured long ago with a wooden pin.
The .69 caliber smoothbore barrel retains an underside lug for mounting a bayonet. Both sling swivels remain intact and the firearm retains its button‑tipped ramrod.
Converted early U.S. muskets such as this illustrate the desperate efforts by Confederate arsenals to utilize every available firearm during the war.
Early state-associated U.S. muskets such as the Model 1808 conversions tell the story of long-lived militia arms that remained useful across several generations. Originally produced in the early republic, many were altered and retained well into the Civil War era, particularly in local or reserve service. Their survival underscores just how broad the demand for serviceable arms became when war came in 1861.
