Confederate Tarred Leather Holster for Colt Navy Revolver
With Flower Button Closure
This is a classic example of a Confederate-made holster, constructed of leather coated in the distinctive tarred, pitch-black finish commonly seen on Southern accoutrements. The holster follows the long, narrow profile intended for the Colt Navy or similar .36-caliber revolvers, with a simple flap closure secured by a decorative brass flower-form stud—a hallmark of small-shop, non-regulation Confederate manufacture.
Unlike the machine-perfect stitching and hardware of Federal counterparts, this holster shows the hand-cut edges, uneven stitching, and improvised brasswork typical of CS cavalry and mounted troops relying on local saddlers. The reverse features the original belt loop, attached with period-correct rivets. The exterior displays the deeply aged, crackled texture often seen on surviving tarred leather, yet remains structurally sound for display
