Connecticut National Guard, Officer Staff, Scovill Mfg Co Waterbury, dm between rings, (15mm)  Button depicts script “CNG”, Connecticut National Guard on lined field.   This unit was organized during the war, representing a replacement of state militia units, intended for officers.    The buttons with narrow rim and pre 1865 backmarks were manufactured before the end of the war and a small number of these buttons have been found on southern battlefields, however most use of them occurred after the war.   Backmark:   “SCOVILL MF’G CO, / WATERBURY.” dm between two rings of dots around the shank.   Three-part officer staff button, coat size, high convex. Reference: Albert CT20, Tice CT210As1.
