Dug Relic Group: U.S. Cartridge Box Plate, Bugle & Cannon Device Fragments, and Assorted Bullets

Untouched battlefield relic grouping, consisting of a well-worn U.S. cartridge box plate, paired with two dug brass insignia fragments—one the unmistakable hunting horn device associated with infantry, and the other a broken artillery cannon tube device. These brass remnants likely once adorned kepis or forage caps, worn by Federal soldiers in the field.

The U.S. box plate shows heavy ground action, with a partially intact lead backing and deep oxidation typical of long-term burial. The reverse clearly displays the remaining lead with the characteristic stress cracks and soil adhesion seen in authentic excavated plates.

Accompanying the plate and insignia are five dug projectiles, representing a cross-section of typical ammunition carried by Union and Confederate soldiers. Included are:

  • One round ball
  • Four assorted .58 caliber and other rifled musket bullets, each with classic white patina and varying degrees of ground wear

This grouping represents a true slice of battlefield archaeology, with components that once saw hard wartime use before spending more than a century beneath the soil. A perfect display set for collectors of dug relics, cartridge box plates, or Union infantry and artillery field finds.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
