Description
Dug Relic Grouping from a Confederate Camp – Spotsylvania Area
A well-displayed set of dug Civil War relics recovered in February 1988 from a Confederate camp located 3 miles east of the Spotsylvania Battlefield. This grouping brings together a variety of classic camp-site finds, each carrying its own story from the 1864 Overland Campaign.
Included in the display are:
Scarce Confederate Ordnance Button – A desirable dug example retaining its raised “CS” ordnance device.
Carpetbag Lock Plate – A partial lock mechanism from a travel bag, commonly used by soldiers to secure personal gear while in the field.
Spoon Handle – Heavily rusted iron utensil fragment, a staple artifact from long-occupied campsites.
US Oval Cartridge Box Plate – A solid, attractive dug plate with dark patina; Union gear frequently appears in Confederate camps due to battlefield salvage and capture.
.58 Caliber Minie Ball – Standard 3-ring bullet fired or dropped on site.
Round Ball – Early-style projectile still commonly seen in Confederate positions due to mixed ammunition supply.
All items retain excellent “as found” patina and are presented in a de display case with the original typed recovery label: “Found in Confederate Camp, 3 mi. E. of Spotsylvania Battlefield – Feb. 1988.”
This is an appealing, ready to display grouping from one of the most fought-over regions of the Virginia battlefront.
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
