Description
Eagle Powder Flask
A classic Civil War era brass eagle powder flask for rifle use, featuring a beautifully embossed Federal eagle motif and fitted with a graduated charging spout.
The body is constructed of copper with a rich, untouched patina and displays the iconic American eagle standing over crossed martial trophies, a design strongly associated with mid-19th century American patriotic imagery. The raised relief remains crisp, with excellent feather detail and clear definition to the shield and ground elements. The flask exhibits honest period dents and field wear, entirely consistent with use.
The top is fitted with a brass collar and adjustable graduated spout, marked “PATENT” at the base. The spring-loaded cutoff mechanism remains present, allowing the user to dispense a measured powder charge appropriate for rifle loading. The adjustable charger made this type particularly desirable for sporting rifles and militia use, and similar examples were widely carried by both civilians and soldiers during the Civil War period.
Side suspension rings remain intact for attachment to a strap. Overall, this is a handsome and entirely authentic Civil War era rifle powder flask, combining strong patriotic eagle imagery with a functional graduated charger—an iconic accessory of the mid-19th century American rifleman.
