Description
Enfield Socket Bayonet with Scabbard
Enfield-pattern socket bayonet, accompanied by its period scabbard. This bayonet is of the type produced for use with the British Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket, one of the most widely imported long arms used during the American Civil War by both Union and Confederate forces.
The triangular blade shows appropriate age and surface oxidation consistent with wartime manufacture and use. The socket retains its locking ring and sight slot, allowing secure mounting to the rifle’s muzzle. The scabbard remains intact and displays honest wear, with visible age to the leather and brass fittings.
Enfield bayonets were imported in large quantities and issued alongside rifle-muskets supplied through British contracts, making them an essential and iconic component of Civil War infantry equipment.
Offered in as-found condition, with no cleaning or restoration, preserving its original surface and field character.
A solid example for collectors of Civil War edged weapons, British military arms, or infantry accoutrements.
