Description

English Transitional Double-Action Percussion Revolver

An English transitional six-shot percussion revolver in .36 caliber, featuring a 4¾-inch octagonal rifled barrel and double-action mechanism. The spur-less hammer is characteristic of the design, allowing the revolver to be fired without manually cocking the hammer.

The steel surfaces display an attractive dark gray-brown patina, while the barrel retains a considerable amount of its original blued finish. The frame, trigger guard and butt plate are embellished with elegant hand-engraved scrollwork. No maker’s marks or serial numbers are visible.

The loading lever operates smoothly and latches securely into a brass catch brazed beneath the barrel. The catch has developed a rich mustard-colored patina. The safety spring on the left side of the frame remains present and functional, and the rifling is clearly visible at the muzzle.

The finely checkered wooden grips remain intact and are secured by a grip screw with decorative diamond-shaped washers. One small screw is missing from the inner curve of the grip strap behind the trigger guard. A handsome example of a mid-19th-century English transitional percussion revolver.
