Scarce excavated North Carolina “Sunburst” button, featuring the distinctive radiating sunburst design surrounding a lined central device boldly lettered “NC.” This attractive Confederate state button displays a deep, untouched excavated patina with the design remaining remarkably strong and well defined.
The reverse shank is missing, as commonly encountered on excavated examples. Despite its ground-recovered condition, the face retains excellent detail and strong visual character. North Carolina state buttons are always desirable Confederate uniform relics, and the dramatic sunburst pattern makes this an especially recognizable example.
A very appealing original Civil War Confederate North Carolina uniform button, preserved exactly as recovered.
