Description
Fine Mexican War Era Eagle Belt Plate Silver Plated Example!
This exceptional Mexican War era rectangular eagle belt plate represents one of the more desirable early U.S. waist belt plates, distinguished by its rich silvered finish and beautifully aged, completely untouched surface. The face exhibits a bold Federal eagle with outstretched wings, clutching arrows and olive branch, set over a lined shield with the surrounding “E Pluribus Unum” motto crisply defined. The original silver wash remains visible throughout, now mellowed into a pleasing, darkened patina that highlights the high points of the design and gives the plate outstanding eye appeal.
The reverse retains its original correct applied brass tongue and bar, both with a single tooth intact and undisturbed. The construction. The plate presents exactly as one hopes to find—unpolished, uncleaned, and showing honest period wear without modern interference.
A classic and increasingly scarce example of a Mexican War era eagle plate, offering strong detail, original finish, and superb, untouched condition.
