Gold Apothecary Scale with Eagle Case & Weights 

 

A scarce and visually striking apothecary balance scale, complete with its original oval metal case decorated with a gilt American eagle. The case exhibits heavy, period wear with significant loss to the gilt decoration, leaving a beautifully aged surface that speaks to long service and use.

 

The scale retains its brass balance beam with suspension cords and matching brass pans, along with a group of original graduated weights. These portable balance scales were essential tools for apothecaries, surgeons, and physicians, used to accurately measure powdered medicines and compounds.

 

The patriotic eagle motif on the case adds an additional layer of appeal, tying this practical medical instrument to American manufacture.
