Description

Historic “Converse Wall Map of Adams County” – Inventory Number: GET 339 / SOLD Ca. 1856-1858 “This map is the version that was carried by General Robert E. lee during the Gettysburg Campaign.”  This finely detailed original map measures 54” x 38”.  It features several local landmarks around it’s edges.  The map was originally published by M.S. & E. Converse, Publishers from Actual Survey by G.M. Hopkins C.E. Philadelphia.  Surrounding the county map at center are street maps of the various small towns in the county, including McSherrystown, Abbotstown, Heidlersburg, Littlestown, Bendersville, Fairfield, Mummasburg, Arendtsville, East Berlin, New Oxford, Hunterstown, and of course, one of Gettysburg.  There is also a Table of Distances.  Also included are several line drawings of significant structures in the area – Pennsylvania College (Gettysburg College), Eagle Hotel, County prison, the residence of David McCreary, the Lutheran Theological Seminary, the Evergreen Cemetery Gatehouse, Fahenstock Bros.
