Kirschbaum Solingen Sword with Gilded Brass Hilt and Scabbard
$950.00
Description
Kirschbaum Solingen Sword with Gilded Brass Hilt and Scabbard
This attractive sword retains a bright, flat-backed blade in excellent condition, showing only very light peppering and a few scattered dark speckles. The left ricasso is stamped with the knight’s helmet trademark of Kirschbaum of Solingen, Germany, one of the most respected makers of high-quality sword blades for generations.
The brass guard and pommel cap were originally gilded, and a substantial amount of the original finish remains. Areas of wear, most notably on the outer bars of the guard, reveal the underlying brass, which has developed a pleasing deep yellow-brown patina. The grip retains its original leather covering and twisted wire wrap, both of which remain intact and present well.
The steel scabbard exhibits an attractive dark brown patina and is free of any significant dents or dings. The blade has a single tiny nick along the cutting edge approximately one-third of the distance from the tip. The leather washer at the base of the blade where it meets the guard remains intact and in solid condition.
A well-preserved example featuring a desirable Kirschbaum-marked blade, original grip components, surviving gilding, and a clean, undamaged scabbard.
