Ladder Badge 4th Wisconsin Infantry – Inventory Number: INS 420 Civil War Veteran’s Ladder Badge with Federal shield drop.  Badge contains the blackened enamel identification: “Co. I – 4th Reg. Wis. Vol.” adorned with a pair of crossed rifles on a federal shield and a pair of banners suspended by German silver loops. The 4th Wisconsin was a distinguished unit that served in multiple major campaigns, including in Louisiana and Mississippi, before transitioning to cavalry duty later in the war.
