Manhattan Firearms Co Revolver Newark N.J.

 

.36 caliber percussion revolver closely follows the classic Colt 1851 Navy pattern and represents one of the better-quality secondary American revolvers produced during the Civil War period.

 

Serial number 32891 is present on the barrel, frame, and wedge, appearing matching throughout. The revolver retains its original octagonal barrel, loading lever, brass trigger guard, and walnut grip.

 

The cylinder shows traces of the original factory floral scroll engraving, still visible beneath a pleasing, untouched patina. Metal surfaces display an even, honest age tone with no signs of modern refinishing. The grips are original and well-fitted, showing natural wear consistent with period use.

 

Manhattan revolvers were popular private purchase sidearms and were carried by officers, militia members, and civilians during the war years. While not a primary U.S. government contract arm like Colt or Remington, Manhattan Fire Arms Company produced quality revolvers that absolutely saw wartime service.

 

A solid Civil War era sidearm with strong eye appeal and matching numbers — an attractive example from a respected Newark manufacturer.
