Manhattan Navy Revolver
A fine example of a Manhattan Fire Arms Co. percussion revolver, manufactured in Newark, New Jersey, and bearing the serial number 14652. This attractive revolver closely follows the Colt 1849 Pocket pattern, featuring a 5-shot .31 caliber cylinder with detailed stagecoach hold-up scene engraving.
The revolver retains an appealing patina on the metal surfaces, complemented by a brass trigger guard and backstrap with mellow golden tones and nicely aged walnut grips. The barrel is clearly stamped:
“MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS CO. NEWARK N.J.”
Manhattan Fire Arms Co. operated from 1856–1868, producing well-made percussion revolvers prized by both civilians and soldiers during the Civil War era. This piece represents the company’s early Series II production, showcasing the firm’s dedication to fine finish and reliable design.
A handsome example of a Civil War-era sidearm from one of Colt’s strongest early competitors.
