Description

Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s Sword

Wonderful field used example of a Civil War Officers sword.  The sword is one of the better examples of an example of field wear as we have had to offer.  The embossed leather handle and brass wire exhibit a nice worn sheen to them.  The ornate floral guard and pommel cap exhibit a mellow gold patina and sharp detail to the scabbard features deluxe brass mounts with embossed diamonds and flourishes.  The suspension rings are more oval from the weight of the saber and the top example has created a nice nesting groove in the ring from rubbing in the field.  The brass drag has a flat portion of the drag from contact with the ground on the march there is a “rattle dent” which has been added to the iron body of the scabbard, just above the drag.  The blade is unmarked but featured a classic C. Roby style engraving with fancy letters “U.S.” and an eagle as well as floral scrolls.  A very good example of a classic officer’s sword.
