Description

Model 1852 Naval Officer’s Sword Belt

A fine Civil War–period Model 1852 Officer’s Sword Belt, complete with its regulation two-piece gilt brass eagle Navy buckle, original leather belt, and remnants of sword hangers, and hardware. This is the classic officer’s rig worn with the M1852 Navl Sword represents the quintessential sidearm accoutrement of Union Naval officers during the Civil War.

The belt retains its original high-relief wreath and eagle buckle, displaying the spread-winged federal eagle clutching arrows and olive branch. The detail remains crisp with attractive untouched gilt patina. Both wreath and tongue plates match perfectly as a period pair.

The belt itself is constructed of officer-quality leather, double-stitched, and dyed black in accordance with wartime regulations. It shows honest period wear but remains structurally sound, flexible, and complete. The stitching is tight, and both brass adjustment loops are present.

The rig includes its original brass sword hangers, still attached to the belt, with remnants of decorative officer stitching. The hangers are fully functional and retain their swivel hooks for attaching an officer’s sword scabbard. Light surface cracking and wear consistent with age and wartime use, but overall a very respectable.
