Model 1855 U.S. Cartridge Box by Boyd’s & Son

With Boyd Marked Box Plate!

 

Original Model 1855 U.S. cartridge box manufactured by Boyd’s & Son, a well-documented Federal contractor. The outer flap retains its oval “US” box plate, displaying rich, untouched brass patina consistent with wartime use, the lead fill boasts a strong maker’s stamp.

 

The interior of the box is boldly maker-marked by Boyd’s & Son, clearly legible despite age and surface wear—an excellent identifying feature. Leather throughout shows honest service wear.

 

The interior retains its original tins, an increasingly scarce survival. Notably, the missing roller buckle remains inside the box. A strong, well-used example that reflects the realities of soldier wear and field service.
