Mourning Ribbon – Inventory Number: MIS 062 / SOLD Civil War era black silk crepe mourning ribbon mounted with a silver bullion and sequin star.   The astronomical rate of death during the American Civil War (1861–1865) transformed the ways in which individuals and communities responded to death.   These cockades were a public expression of grief to mourn loved ones or the martyred President Lincoln.
