Description

New York Militia Eagle Button, Treble Gilt (23mm).  A flat gilt brass one piece button that depicts a calling eagle with upraised wings facing right.  The eagle is standing on globe device with border and rope edging on a lined oval field.  New York State Militia uniform coat button that pre dates 1830.  Backmark: “(star) TREBLE (dot) GILT (star) / STAND ᵈ (dot) COLOUR”.  Flat, one-piece.  Made in Britain during the 1830s, these buttons are much scarcer than NY 100 variants.    Reference: Albert: NY11 Tice: 105A3   Inventory Number: BUT 070 / Sold
