Civil War-era cloth bound volume with gilt-stamped title, containing a series of finely executed steel engravings of prominent Union generals, naval officers, and political figures. The portraits are sharply detailed, typical of mid-19th century steel plate work, and are accompanied by brief period biographies outlining rank, service, and wartime contributions. 

Works of this type were produced during and just after the war as both commemorative and informational pieces, offering a contemporary look at the men leading the Union war effort. The combination of engraved portraiture and biographical text provides a strong visual and historical record of how these figures were presented to the Northern public. 

Condition shows honest wear to the binding, consistent with age and use, but remains a solid and attractive example with desirable engraved content.
