Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan at Antietam

A striking and authentic hand-colored lithograph by Currier & Ives, titled: “Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan at the Battle of Antietam, Md. Sept. 17th 1862.” Printed at 152 Nassau St., New York, this dramatic piece depicts General McClellan heroically mounted on a rearing black charger, directing troops during one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. A large formation of Union cavalry and infantry can be seen behind him, rendered in the bold patriotic style typical of wartime Currier & Ives prints. This image was published during the war as part of a series glorifying Union generals and major battles, and it remains one of the most iconic portrayals of “Little Mac.” Measures approximately 12” x 17” Excellent color retention; minimal foxing or toning visible; professionally framed and ready to display. A powerful and rare Civil War print capturing the Union Army’s commander in one of his most consequential moments. Perfect for collectors of Civil War art, military history, or early American printmaking.
