Description
Pattern 1853 Enfield Socket Bayonet with Scabbard
Pattern 1853 Enfield socket bayonet, complete with its correct metal-mounted leather scabbard.
The blade retains a pleasing, untouched steel surface with scattered light age speckling and visible inspection/acceptance markings at the ricasso. Markings appear clear and legible. The blade remains straight with a strong, defined edge and crisp fuller. The socket and locking ring retain a deep, even patina with smooth, undisturbed surfaces. Locking mechanism functions as intended. Accompanied by its period scabbard, featuring brass throat and drag with dark, honest leather body. The scabbard presents very well with attractive age and no modern alterations observed.
The Pattern 1853 Enfield bayonet is one of the most iconic edged weapons of the Civil War era, widely imported and heavily used by both Union and Confederate forces. Complete examples with scabbard — especially with visible blade markings — remain highly desirable.
