Philadelphia Fire Zouaves Belt Plate – 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry
Die-struck rolled brass oval cartridge box plate featuring letters “P.F.Z.” on front and brass wire loops soldered on the reverse. Cataloged as Plate 592 in O’Donnell and Duncan Campbell. Circa 1867-72.
This regiment, also known as Baxter’s Fire Zouaves, was composed largely of Philadelphia firemen and saw fierce combat in some of the Civil War’s most notable engagements, including Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg and was led by and led by Colonel DeWitt Clinton Baxter.
Comes housed in a 6 x 8 display case with blue velvet backing and descriptive card.
