Description

Philip Henry Sheridan Signature – Inventory Number: AUT 109 / SOLD Philip Henry Sheridan was born on March 6, 1831 and was a career army officer. He graduated from West Point in 1853 and was 34* out of 52 cadets. He was involved in numerous Civil War Campaigns but his greatest victory, because of his aggressive and well-executed performance, was at the Battle of Sayler’s Creek on April 6, 1865 which essentially sealed the fate of General Lee’s Army. President Lincoln telegraphed General Grant: “General Sherman says “.if the thing is pressed I think that Lee will surrender.'” “Let the thing be pressed.” General Grant summarized Sherman’s performance: “I believe that General Sherman has no superior as a general, either living or dead, and perhaps not an equal.” He died in Massachusetts on August 5, 1888 at age 57.   Inventory Number: AUT 109 / SOLD
