Pocket Watch Depicting General Nataniel Banks

Incredible wartime silver pocket watch with detailed engraved image of General Nathaniel Banks surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves with a banner containing a pair of engraved stars & “Gen. Banks”.  The face of the watch is porcelain with a small hairline crack.  Maker marked by the firm of James Jaquet a Swiss watchmaker who lived in St. Imier, Switzerland. He was known for producing high-quality pocket watches in the 19th century. The watch is in excellent overall condition and bears matching numbers on the case and workings.  The back of the case is engraved with a bouquet of flowers. Civil War watches are often equipped with pseudo-American military scenes of zouaves, forts and naval battles which remain value to be marketed in several countries.  This example is the first we have encountered specifically produced for the American market with a particular named Union General.
