Puppy Paw Belt Plate with Remnants of Leather Belt From the Battle of Antietam

 

Original relic US belt plate with stud type hooks, an early recovery featuring a section of the original leather belt fossilized to the reverse.  The tongue side was damaged either by battle, plow, or while being excavated. The face bears a nice chocolate brown patina. Overall, a very neat relic from the bloodiest day of the American Civil War.
