A seldom-encountered pair of Civil War-period cotton dress gloves, representing a category of personal apparel far scarcer than the more commonly seen gauntlets. While leather gauntlets—particularly postwar fraternal or militia examples—appear with some frequency, period cotton dress gloves rarely survive due to their fragile nature and the realities of hard use in camp and field.
