Rare Civil War Silk Election Ribbon

 

Gov. Andrew G. Curtin, “The Soldier’s Friend and Traitor’s Foe”. Ca. 1860 Bold red silk campaign ribbon for Andrew Gregg Curtin, Pennsylvania’s popular wartime governor (1861 -67). Printed in black with an eagle device and the famous slogan: “The Soldier’s Friend and Traitor’s Foe.” Retains its original stickpin.

 

Curtin was one of Abraham Lincoln’s staunchest allies, known nationally for his tireless support of Pennsylvania troops. He played a central role in organizing the November 19, 1863 Gettysburg dedication ceremonies, personally inviting President Lincoln to deliver remarks-words that became immortal as the Gettysburg Address. Condition: Minor fading and some light edge wear.

 

Comes housed in 12 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
