Rare Confederate Revolver Holster
A scarce and unquestionably Confederate-made leather revolver holster, likely intended for a Colt Navy, Griswold & Gunnison, Spiller & Burr, or similar .36 caliber revolver. Constructed in the classic Southern style from blackened leather, the holster exhibits several hallmark features of Confederate field manufacture, including a simple one-piece body, fixed belt loop, and improvised closure system. Particularly noteworthy is the closure finial, fashioned from a wood screw that has been peened over by hand, a resourceful expedient rarely encountered and entirely consistent with wartime Southern production.
The rear belt loop is secured with a distinctive reddish copper rivet, another characteristic often seen on Confederate leather accoutrements where traditional brass hardware was unavailable. The holster retains an attractive untouched appearance with pleasing age, honest field wear, and excellent form. Surviving Confederate revolver holsters are considerably rarer than their Federal counterparts, and examples displaying such unmistakable wartime Southern construction details are highly sought after by advanced collectors.
An outstanding and absolutely authentic Confederate revolver holster representing the ingenuity and material shortages that defined Confederate manufacture during the Civil War.
