Description
Rare North Carolina Eagle Talon Pipe Bowl
Scarce clay pipe bowl exhibiting a bold and symbolic design in the form of an eagle’s talon. The surface shows molded detail imitating the scaled texture of a raptor’s gripping claw, with the underside carefully rendered to suggest talon ridges, attributed to North Carolina folk production.
Eagle motifs were a powerful patriotic symbol during the 19th century, often evoking themes of strength, freedom, and national pride. Regional potters in the Carolinas and surrounding states occasionally incorporated such designs into their work, making surviving examples especially prized.
A fine example of Southern folk craftsmanship and a rare eagle-themed pipe bowl for any collection of Civil War–era artifacts.
