Civil War Soldiers Memorial Roster 19th Unattached Company Heavy Artillery, Massachusetts Volunteers.  Patriotic motifs of an American eagle, soldier and homecoming scenes, allegorical figures and crossed American flags. This unit was mustered into U.S. service at Galloup’s Island, Boston Harbor, Massachusetts, August 18, 1864.   This Company was recruited by Capt. James H Wade, under authority from Governor Andrew for coast defense; went to Galloups’s Island Aug.16, 1864; left Galloup’s Island in steamer Ben Deford for Washington Sept. 11, 1864; arrived Sept. 14, 1864; sent to Ft. Meigs, Sept. 16, “65; received orders to go to Virginia Sept. ‘ 28, 1864; arrived at Ft. Corcoran, Va., Sept. 29, 1864; sent to Ft. Tillinghast, Va.; Sept. 29, 1864; sent to Ft. Buffalo Oct. 17, 1864; reported back to Ft. Tillinghast Oct. 19, 1864.  Professionally framed, frame measures 24″ x 20”.    Accompanied by Clapp’s G.A.R. Membership ribbon, drop has separated from the ribbon, pin is present on reverse and a stencil, “Wm. T. Clapp, / 19thCo.Mass.H.A.”  An outstanding grouping of items.
