Description

Relic U.S. Cartridge Box Plate – Battle of the Wilderness (1864)

Fire-Recovered Example

This is a genuine excavated Union cartridge box breast plate recovered from the Battle of the Wilderness, May 5–6, 1864—one of the most brutal and chaotic engagements of the Civil War.

The plate is in a relic, heat-altered state, exhibiting heavy surface distortion, softened contours, and a darkened, earthen patina consistent with intense exposure to fire. The Wilderness is infamous for its dense undergrowth and the widespread fires that swept across the battlefield during and after the fighting, burning wounded men, equipment, and accoutrements where they lay. This plate’s condition is entirely consistent with relics recovered from those fire-scorched zones.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
