Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Revolver with Inspector Cartouches

Description

Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Revolver with Inspector Cartouches

A well-preserved Remington New Model Army .44 caliber revolver retaining portions of its original blue finish on the frame. The steel displays a dark patina, while the barrel has a predominantly brown tone with areas of gray showing through. The brass trigger guard and grip screw washers exhibit an aged yellow patina, with a small area of brighter brass just forward of the trigger.

The barrel is marked “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW-MODEL.” A small “D” stamp appears on the left side of the barrel near the frame. Serial number 120,687 is recorded beneath the barrel, under the loading lever. The revolver retains a steel blade front sight screwed into the top of the barrel.

The wood grips remain intact and solid, showing minor dings and scratches consistent with age and handling. Both grips bear rectangular inspector cartouches below the grip screw; the right cartouche is faint, while the left is more clearly visible. The loading lever and cylinder pin function smoothly, and the cylinder advances and locks into place when the hammer is cocked.

An appealing example distinguished by its remaining original blue finish, visible inspector cartouches, and well-preserved wood grips.
