Description

Rogers, Smith & Co. Silverplate Hollowware Set with Engraved 1863 Presentation

Rogers, Smith & Co. was founded in Hartford in 1857. Their principal business was hollowware, the company also supplied silverplated flatware, using the designs furnished by others, which they plated, finished and stamped with their trademark. By 1862, Rogers, Smith & Co. had failed, and was purchased by others and moved to New Haven. This attractive set consists of an 11 ½” coffee pot, an 8” creamer, and a 6 ¼” sugar bowl. The bases of the sugar bowl and coffee pot are dated 1859, and the base of the creamer bears the Rogers, Smith & Co. makers mark and model number. Each piece is finely engraved on the front “Presented to our Mother from Van, Jay, and Rome. Dec. 25, 1863.” A wonderful and attractive Civil War dated hollowware set.  *
