An exceptional and scarce Burnside-pattern breast plate, presented in an early museum mount. 

 
The plate displays the classic spread-wing eagle clutching arrows, a distinctive design associated with the Burnside pattern and far less commonly encountered than standard U.S. box or breast plates. The casting retains strong relief and an untouched, period surface with pleasing, undisturbed patina consistent with age and long-term preservation.

 
The breast plate is mounted on a hand-finished wooden backing, framed with an early gilt molding.
