Description

Scarce Civil War Naval Officer’s Frock Coat – Inventory Number: UNI 058 / SOLD Conforming to the 1864 U.S. Navy Regulations, this is an excellent example of a seafaring officer’s “service dress” frock coat.  The deep blue/black wool body had the distinctive “rolling collar”and full skirt typical of such garments, with the “black silk serge” lining quilted in the upper half.  Two rows of nine original naval buttons line the front (“D. Evans” backmarks) with two at the hip.  Two strips of 1/4″ “navy gold lace” are firmly sewn at each cuff.  Also affixed to the coat are the original shoulder straps for an Assistant Paymaster: an oak sprig embroidered on a black background, with a single bar at each end.  The coat I excellent and shows little wear with essentially no moth damage.  A difficult to obtain Civil War uniform in superlative condition.   Inventory Number: UNI 058 / SOLD
