Ship Island (Mississippi, South Aug 28, 1862 of Biloxi) I take this opportunity to answer the letter I have just received under date of Aug 7th. I will first say that I am very well. I am on guard today and can not write much now. was glad to hear from you once more and to hear that the boys was getting along so well with the measles. I alloted ten dollars per month to you. I sent the twenty dollars home that you received and there was forty dollars more to go home the first of July when I was paid off and there will be four months more due the first of September. You didn’t say anything about whether you had heard from it or I have sent twenty dollars from August and forty the last payment and there will be forty more due soon which will make one hundred and Harrison wrote that he had alloted eight dollars per month that will be ninety six dollars a year and I want you should get the money on the note that I have got against and pay it in for the farm and make as large a payment this fall as you can. It is almost dark and I cannot see to write much more now. Tell the boys that they must be as good boys and help pay for the farm as soon as possible. It is rumored that this regiment is ordered to the Potomac but whether we shallgo or not is uncertain but direct as before trian until further orders. This from your obedient Son, Leander E.
