U.S. Sword Belt Plate with 3 Piece Silver Wreath
A handsome example of a Civil War rectangular sword belt plate, featuring a finely cast spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and olive branches, framed by a high-relief silvered wreath constructed of three individually applied pieces, indicative of early war manufacture. The brass face shows excellent detail and warm patina, while the applied silver wreath retains strong contrast, enhancing the visual depth of the design overall.
The reverse retains the original single thin tongue and belt retention loop attachment, showing honest wear and untouched patina. This style of plate was issued to cavalry and artillery soldiers for use on the sword belt. A very nice example!
