    1700's Signal Cannon - Inventory Number: ART 266 / SOLD

    Signal cannons, also referred to as, salute cannons were used aboard ship and on land to make salutes, to warn of danger, and to attract attention in the case of an emergency.  This example which was hand-forged is the earliest we've had the pleasure of offering.  Construction: The .69 caliber barrel measures 9 3/8" long and is mounted via rose nails and hammered iron staples to a section of wood 12 1/4" x 8 1/2" x 2" with original finish.  This example originated from a structure in Charleston, S.C. and was purported to be slave made.
