Paper backed, 65-page almanac measuring 7 ¼” by 4 5/8” The American Tract Society was an evangelical organization founded on May 11, 1825, in New York City for the purpose of publishing and disseminating tracts of Christian literature. It traces its lineage back through the New York Tract Society (1812) and the New England Tract Society (1814) to the Religious Tract Society of London, begun in 1799. The Almanac contains numerous engravings and has a wealth of information on astrology, astronomy, history, ecology, religion, as well as significant entries against the institution of slavery. A wonderful glimpse into American life during the first year of the Civil War.
