.35 Caliber Maynard Cartridge - Inventory Number: BUL 434 / SOLD
For the 1st Model Carbine
Heavily used in Confederate Cavalry Service
Dr. Edward Maynard held patent #22,565 dated January 11, 1859. By this patent, cartridge cases for the Maynard carbine were made of drawn brass to form a tube with a closed end. A brass disk was soldered to the base of the tube. The large diameter of the base disk was to aid in extracting the case after firing. The lead bullet has a pointy nose and a single groove. The cartridge was separate primed — a small hole in the base allowed the flame from a percussion cap through to ignite the powder charge.
Comes housed in 5 x 6 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
