Artillery Shell - Inventory Number: ART 187 / Sold

U.S. 3" Type 3 Absterdam Case Shot.  Patented Feb. 23, 1864, for a 3" Gun Ordnance and Parrot Rifle.  The size is 2.95" in diameter, 8 1/4" long, 9.05 pounds, some even pitting remains of original orange paint with black paint over.  Good threads, fuze is absent.  Brass band sabot,  Seen on page 71 of Thomas Dickey & Peter George revised 1993 edition of Field Artillery Projectiles.
