Bullet Damaged Civil War Sibley Tent Stove - Inventory Number: CAM 538 / SOLD
Henry Hopkins Sibley (1818-1886) graduated from West point in 1838, was commissioned a second lieutenant in 2nd U.S. Dragoons, and served in the Seminole War.
in 1856, he patented the "Sibley Tent" that could accommodate 20 soldiers and their gear. His tent became widely used on the frontier.
Sibley also invented the "Sibley Stove" to provide heat within the tent. This example was recovered from Fredericksburg, Virginia and exhibits a series of bullet holes which passed through the stove! The metal surface exhibits even pitting throughout with a 16” crack at the seam. The top edge is rolled inward. The door is lacking.
