A cavalryman’s .54 Caliber Burnside carbine. This has the characteristic ball top, pointed tip and cruciform slotted body of the Burnside tompions. They are occasionally seen in photos and were a common item of issue to help keep carbine barrel dry and clean. Excellent example, scarce.
