Butchers / Amputation Saw - Inventory Number: MED 122 / SOLD
This saw is an US Army Butchers Saw. It was used in the butchering of cattle to feed the troops. These saws are depicted in Lord's encyclopedia of the Civil War and were improvised for surgical saws. Amputation saws have a rigid back to the blade, this keeps them from flexing while sawing thru bone. Maker marked, overall saw measures approximately 15 7/8" inches, blade measures 11 inches.
